Sunday was turning into a lost day. Helen had quite a long night up with Emma and was able to sleep in until midday whilst I looked after Emma and gave her some milk from the bottle. We had an omelette with salad for lunch then looked out at the steaming hot weather and decided we HAD to go out! At my suggestion we went on a walk which took us to the best pub in the whole world,
The Crown at Churchill. Unfortunately it led us over the bumpiest farm track in Somerset. We parked at The Star in Star, and walked over the treacherous cobbles through the blistering heat. Keeping the sun off Emma was quite an operation with the wonky brolly. Spirits were revived at The Crown with a
scrumpy cider for me and cold soda for Helen. 30 minutes of sitting was enough for Emma who let us know it was time to go by screaming! So back we went getting hotter and hotter. It was 6pm by the time we got back to the car, and it was still around 30 degrees celsius.
Sunday night was unsettled for Emma, perhaps because of the heat. She was up every 2 hours which meant poor Helen didn't get much sleep. At 5.30 am she woke me, so I sat up with Emma and experimented with letting her lie on my stomach and suck my little finger. She sucked contentedly for 10 minutes then fell asleep. She woke 30 minutes later and wriggled back onto my finger for another suck!

This kept her mollified until about 8.30 when I woke Helen for a feed. When Helen came downstairs she was met by Tigger in Emma's new Barnacle Boat! Needless to say Tigger was moved on quick smart. Emma has been enjoying her boat, particularly gazing up at the dangling toys. She lasts about 20 minutes before getting bored and complaining. At 9.30am we set off for a weekly shop at Tescos and were all set to use our new parking privileges in the baby section before finding it full up! We had the biggest shop in history, filling a huge trolley - Helen's first shop for a little while.
The afternoon was spent eating some home made soup and pruning the roses in the garden. We also planted out the tomatoes in a grow bag and gave all the parched plants a much needed water. Helen and Emma had some sleep, then we headed out to the bank to open a new account for Emma with some cheques from Granny B and our kind neighbours from across the road, the Sperrings. It's now coming up to 8pm and we're about to head along the sea front to see the sun go down on a beautiful day.
