England Crash Out, Emma Doesn't Care!

Thursday and Friday were spent with me at work and Helen home with Emma. Nanna visited Helen on Thursday and they had a nice time, going to the Drum & Monkey at Kenn for lunch and catching up. They enjoyed a lovely cheese and peach salad.

Helen had a second visit from the Health Visitor in the afternoon who remarked on how relaxed and happy Helen looked. She weighed Emma and found she's now grown to 8lb 9oz. In the evening we telephoned The Cellar to find out we were in luck and they were open until 9pm. We booked a table and set off with Rob & Leila for a sit and a drink.

We'd got just round the corner when we saw Lawton who lives nearby and is an old friend of Rob & Leila's. As they started talking an almighty burping then vomiting noise erupted from the pram. Milky puke literally flowed from the pram. Emma had lost her last meal, and it had covered her face, the pram and her clothes. We turned right round and headed for home to tidy up and cancelled the booking. Emma's eye got quite red and inflamed from where the acid vomit had got in but calmed down after an hour or so.

Once reorganised we headed for Helen's parents to order a takeaway and to enjoy some wine. The wine was lovely but the takeaway was a disaster. We ordered from Over the Moon where the service is normally fast and the food excellent. They misheard our address and didn't take a telephone number. We called them when it was late and they sent out the driver again to deliver our (by now) luke warm pizzas and Helen's disgusting lasagne. It seemed to be greasy fried mince layered with nasty pasta! To their credit they only charged us £10.

Friday started difficulty for Helen. Emma wanted to feed almost continuously. She'd be fed, winded and changed, then start crying. Helen would give her a top up feed, then she'd either be sick, or the process would start again. I came home for lunch which enabled Helen to dry her hair and settle down. Giving Emma a swaddling in a blanket helped calm her down and suddenly she was asleep. When I got back from work again at 6.30pm, she still hadn't woken up - she slept 5 hours solid! Helen had a nice walk up Poet's Walk and got lots of things done by the evening. By the way - follow the "A Guy Decides To Sell His Car On E-Bay" link from the Poets Walk site, it's a hoot, and its all true! We spent a pleasant evening having home cooked stir fry and watching Germany vs Argentina.

On Saturday I had to work in the morning. When I got home, Helen had a very nice morning with Emma. She's really starting to enjoy being awake and taking an interest in her surroundings. Helen took her outside with her play mat and boat and Emma was looking at the dangly toys and enjoying Helen's voices and the noises they made.

Rob and Bex came around for the football bringing some Union Jack meringues Bex had made after having fun with her new mixing machine. She'd got them just right - all squidgy in the middle! We took it in turns to hold Emma. She was lulled into a nice long sleep, occasionally waking up but they easily calmed again. When the football got interesting, and as more beers were consumed, the spectators (mostly me) were getting noisier and rowdier, but although she'd look at whoever was talking (or shouting,) she didn't get alarmed. In fact the only crying was from the grown-ups as the Portugese goal keeper saved penalty after penalty putting England out of the World Cup. Here are some pictures of Rob watching the football with Emma on his lap, Tigger asleep in the sun, and Auntie Bex enjoying a cuddle.

The evening was very pleasant as after watching Dr Who, we were treated to a riverside Tuscan meal at Rob & Leila's. We enjoyed a very relaxed time but left early, at 9.30pm, to try for an early night. This morning (Sunday) I've been filling in my blog whilst feeding Emma expressed milk from the bottle and taking the odd photo - see the first 3 in this entry. Helen is asleep - she had two feeding sessions during the night - so is catching up a bit now. I have tomorrow off work, so I'm looking forward to a relaxing break.
