Rotten Nappies

Having tried Pampers (great!) and Huggies (leaky) our conscience has begun to prick us and we've considered Terry nappies which can be washed and reused. Helen is keen, I am not so keen. To attempt a compromise, I have bought some biodegradable nappies which won't fill landfill sites as they compost down apparently. Emma was thrilled when she heard she'd be testing them.... We have 52 nappies to complete the testing and I'm hoping they'll prove a satisfactory alternative to towelling, safety pins and rubber pants.

We had lovely visit from Leila on Tuesday night. Emma was in good spirits as were we after enjoying some Aussie red wine!

During the night Emma was mostly good. She was wide awake soon after 6am though which was when I took these pictures.
.
I had my usual day off on Wednesday. We set off to go to the bank but Emma was EXTREMELY sick on the way and managed to mess up her clothes and the car seat. Helen headed back to clean up whilst I went to the bank. There was a massive queue in the bank, so we met up again at the same time. We headed into Nailsea to show off Emma to my work mates and colleagues at the neighbouring Skeeles also Nailsea. By the time we'd got there and done a little shopping, Emma was hungry again so Helen fed her upstairs in the stuffy stock room! The weather was a bit mad - rainy but also very hot and humid. We've had a heat wave over the weekend and it's very gradually breaking in a series of thunder storms and downpours.

We bought a good sized shoulder of lamb from Baker the Butchers of Nailsea. The plan is to slow cook then devour it on Friday with some help from the family. The drama of the Nailsea outing led to an extremely sleepy evening for Emma, she slept from about 7pm until midnight whilst we cooked, ate (undisturbed for once!) and relaxed in front of the television. A midnight feed was followed by one at 3.30am, then 5.30am, then a reluctant to settle Emma needed coaxing back to sleep. I resorted to the suck my finger trick again as Helen was desperate for sleep at that point. She fell asleep on my finger and the peace lasted until 7.30am.

Today (Thursday) involved myself back at work, and Helen picking up the plaque with the imprints of Emma's hand and foot from the potter at Clevedon Craft Centre. We were very pleased with the results and for £20 would recommend it, although I think we were lucky the pressing went as well as it did. The imprints aren't very deep, but are clear and the potter finished the plaque with pleasant art work and a lovely varnish.

Helen went to the Little Harp with her pregnant friend, and fellow OT Becky Barnes for lunch. They had a good catch up and enjoyed a cheese sandwich (with pickle for Becky) and a view of the Severn Estuary from the pub. Emma kept squawking, and didn't really sleep all day long. She got away with it in the pub as there were a lot of other mums there with noisy babies.

With all the rain, the garden is blooming, here is a picture of a lilly which has appeared next to the roses, and a passion flower that has blossomed out of the creeper which grows up the garage.

At 6.30pm, Helen's bridesmaid and friend from school, Kath visited to meet Emma and see how we're doing.
Kath's on the right on this picture of them all getting ready back in August 2003. Emma quitened down as soon as Kath took her and was soon having her longest sleep of the day so far. Helen looked on enviously!
